About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our team as a Mascot Assistant on a casual basis. The Mascot Assistant works in the Fan Activation Team supporting the delivery of the Mighty Red Mascot programme which promotes the values of Liverpool FC by creating an accessible and engaging programme of activity which connects with a family audience and the next generation of fans.

What will you be doing?

  • Ability to perform in the character costume of Mighty Red, utilising Mighty Red performance guidelines to engage and react directly with audience
  • Mighty Red brand ambassador
  • Strong nonverbal communication skills for when in costume
  • Act as support for Mighty Red character when not in costume, engaging and communicating directly with the audience
  • When performing as the character Mighty Red the employee will be constantly in costume and be required to move about in costume during events/appearances to entertain fans whilst working in excessive heat or cold under demanding physical conditions
  • Working with children, young families, and vulnerable adults
  • Management and maintenance of character costume
  • To adhere to the Club principles of safeguarding
  • Professional commitment to treat the mascot’s identity and physical description as if it were any other highly sensitive team information (i.e., strictly confidential)
  • Must possess an extraordinary level of creativity and spontaneity
  • Be flexible for work hours beyond the typical work week for events both during the evenings and weekends, and plan to arrive early and be prepared for appearances.
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism when representing Liverpool football club and its Partners.
  • Some support may be required to film & post contact for Mighty Red Social media platforms

Who are we looking for?

The Mascot Assistant will work as both a performer of the Mascot character and act as character support role in communicating and engaging the audience ensuring the mascot programme is delivered in accordance with the performance and delivery standards & guidelines. The role requires high-quality world-class performances that are consistent with the established and unique personality of Mighty Red. Performances and appearances will include (but is not limited to); matchdays, community activity, team appearances, sponsors appearances, charities, media, and private functions.

To be successful, you will be able communicate and engage with the audience and able to adapt your approach depending on who your audience is. You will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain the highest level of professional when representing Liverpool FC and club partners. You will have experience in character performance and should be physically fit to handle the demands of performing in the mascot costume. You will also have the ability to work flexible hours and travel locally when required.  

Physical requirements essential to job role:

  • Height – 5ft 7in to 6ft 2in to be able to fit into the character costume
  • High level of physical fitness
  • Ability to work in extreme heat
